Description
This is a beautiful vase coated in a rich and translucent apple green glaze over an off-white ge-type glaze, and dates from the Qianlong period. Both the mouth rim and foot are covered in an iron wash, simulating Song ceramics as became popular during this period. The vase rests on a nicely splayed base attached to an elegant pear shaped body with gradually flaring neck, topped with an elevated and galleried mouth. The recessed base and inside of the mouth are done in the same ge-type glaze that was used under apple green.
Apple green is created by applying a lead based translucent copper glaze over a ge-type base glaze and fired in oxidation to yield this exquisite example of apple green glaze.
